Meet David from Greenworks

Meet David 👋

Today I want to introduce you to my new pal, David. David is the Michigan rep for Greenworks Commercial. Green Projects Group has teamed up with Greenworks to help Michiganders make the switch from gas to electric lawn tools. I had a few questions I wanted to ask David, and I thought you might like to hear the conversation. Have questions about going electric? Send me a message at william@greenprojectsgroup.com.

Tell us about your background in lawn tools.

I first started working in lawn and garden while I was in college. Once I completed my (unrelated) degree, I worked for different design firms in the construction industry for a few years. Then, in 2018, my best friend asked me if I would be interested in a sales job for the outdoor power equipment industry. Since I already knew I enjoyed the industry and it gave me the opportunity to be closer to family, I took the leap and haven’t looked back.

What drew you to Greenworks?

Back in 2018, the dealership I worked for wasn’t doing much with electric outdoor power equipment. We were approached by Greenworks and they invited us to a seminar to learn more. After much debate, we decided to attend the show and take a look at what they had to offer. It was quite impressive at the time. It was the first year they started offering commercial mowers and UTV’s, not to mention the dozens of hand tools they offer.

After even more debate upon our return, we decided to become a Greenworks Dealer. As I sold the product for the next few years, it became apparent that a lot of people were switching from gas to battery. In January of 2022 I had an opportunity to become the Greenworks Commercial rep for Michigan and I decided to take the leap.

Why should the average homeowner go electric in their yard?

  1. There’s almost zero maintenance involved with electric lawn tools since you don’t have to deal with oil changes and other problems that come up with gas products.

  2. Everything is easy to start—charge your battery, push the button, get to work.

  3. You can save money on gas and take advantage of the electric grid.

  4. Electric mowers tend to be 10-20 dBA (decibels) quieter than their gas counterparts. Many people who previously wore hearing protection when working decide they don’t need that anymore after switching to a battery.

You rep the commercial line of equipment. Why should residential customers consider getting that instead of the residential (big box store) version?

You should consider getting commercial quality because of durability, craftsmanship, and overall performance compared to residential. Typically replacement parts are available for commercial use but the residential battery is pretty much throw away.

Tell us what it’s been like building the market in Michigan.

Building the market in Michigan has its challenges. There are a lot of people who are dead set against battery machines. It’s amusing to me because if you ask those same people what they use to run their power tools 99% of them mention a battery-powered device. I’m trying to focus on the advantages our products have on the environment. My big goal for the future would be to hopefully get 25% of Michiganders to use battery mowers over gas.
